George Shearing – More Grand Piano {Concord}

Review by Scott Yanow (allmusic.com)

This was a very spontaneous session. For his second solo piano date for Concord, George Shearing picked out ten songs while he was at the studio and, without any real prior planning, simply played. The results are consistently enjoyable as Shearing performs some of his favorite songs. A few of the tunes (such as “You Don’t Know What Love Is” and “East of the Sun”) had long been part of his repertoire but some of the other songs (such as “My Silent Love,” an unusual reworking of “Change Partners” and “Dream”) are full of surprises. An excellent outing.

Tracks:
01 – My Silent Love
02 – Change Partners
03 – My Favorite Things
04 – You Don’t Know What Love Is
05 – Ramona
06 – I Didn’t Know What Time it Was
07 – People
08 – East of the Sun
09 – I Can’t Get Started
10 – Dream
11 – Wind in the Willow
